About Ecocentro Danaus:

Since 1997 the Ecocentro Danaus has been protecting an area of 3 hectares and has been working with organizations concerned with the management and protection of natural resources.
This area was formerly used as pasture and agricultural land. Natural regeneration processes have created a secondary tropical rain forest where they study and protect the tropical ecosystems and promote a more responsible use of these precious natural resources.
They provide information and training services in biodiversity, as well as produce and exhibit many species of flora and fauna. In conjunction with various other organizations, they produce species for projects in reforestation, and work to preserve endangered species.
 
Also within the Ecocentro Danaus, Ojoche, a local Conservation Association, has established a nursery of native trees, especially for those in greatest danger of extinction.

Objectives

To preserve and restore damaged ecosystems by using organic methods and genetic materials from native flora and fauna.
To encourage production of native trees, in particular those that are endangered, and to maintain the existence of these species, as well as to assure the food sources for the different species of fauna in our tropical ecosystems.
To contribute to the initiatives of the Central American Biological Corridor
To generate in the people an awareness of the necessity of solidarity in our attitudes toward the natural resources that surround us.
To motivate and establish harmonious relationships between protected areas and communities.
To develop environmental training events that increase individual and collective skills of locals toward the appropriate conservation and sustainable use of natural resources
